Meet Tía Bere
Born and raised in Tongva Land (Los Angeles), Bernice Vasquez is the proud daughter of immigrant parents. Affectionately known as Tía Bere, she finds joy in sharing her culture through dance and traditional drum songs.
As a fire keeper and fire carrier for her community, Tía Bere honors and preserves indigenous teachings through ceremony and the arts. She enjoys traveling, connecting with other cultural bearers, and deepening her understanding of traditional knowledge.
Tía Bere also loves sharing cantos, working with clay, and nurturing meaningful connections in nature with her young Matilija friends.
